About Céline Liebi
Céline Liebi was born in Bern, Switzerland, in 1998. She completed her art studies at the St. Joost Academie in Breda in the Netherlands. After graduating in 2021, she moved to Kitzbühel in Austria, where she now lives and works. Liebi's greatest sources of inspiration are nature and digital space. In her pictures, she deals with the question of the natural and the unnatural. She tries to bring these two worlds together and create a space between reality and fantasy. Her process begins in nature, where she takes reference photos, which she, as a graphic designer, then digitally alters and develops further through her painting. her main subjects are flowers.
Flowers interest her because they are so fragile and constantly changing. Her large-scale works extend Liebi's ongoing exploration of themes such as the cycles of life, blossoming and withering, joy and pain, as well as the tangle of the natural world. Her paintings capture a moment when the flower blooms but begins to die. In the course of their lives, they take on forms that seem unreal and almost abstract. Liebi tries to capture the perfect moment in time and to play with this moment in her pictures.
The abstract-figurative paintings extend the life cycle of a flower by combining the transience of the plant with the permanence of painting. The creative process results in the exaggeration of forms and the distortion of colors into an image of grandeur to hallucinatory effect.
